Christopher Willingham is an artist, living and working in the beautiful Monterey Bay area of central California. As a photographer, working primarily in the traditional medium of film and silver gelatin monochrome printing, his journey in the visual arts began with medium format photography, drawing, and ceramics in the deserts of Southern California, where he grew up. Exploring sculpture and precious metal work throughout his twenties and early thirties he expanded and refined his visual vocabulary and range of artistic expression. Film photography is a deliberate and contemplative artistic medium, having more in common with drawing, painting, and printmaking than with the current perceptions of photography in general. With an emphasis on the studied techniques of the large format camera, his work encompasses several artistic genres: from landscape and still life, to portraiture and abstractions.
